LIFFE Sugar Soars!

LIFFE Sugar soars! After hitting contract lows at the end of August, LIFFE white Sugar futures have been on a bullish tear to start September, with the lead month October contract gaining nearly $55 per ton and posting its largest weekly gain since 1989. There are concerns of possible supply tightness due to an export ban in India, which may be extended until December. This news has traders short the October contract scrambling to buy back the position before last trading day on September 15th. Those who remain short after this date will be forced to deliver white Sugar to the longs, and with supplies being extremely tight, traders will have to pay-up to obtain deliverable supplies.
