The US Economy Is Looking Up

The US economy is looking up, dashing ahead in the opening quarter of this year at a 5.3 percent pace, the fastest in 2 1/2 years, and even stronger than previously thought. Gross domestic product, a measure of the value of all goods and services produced within the United States and considered the best barometer of the country's economic fitness, exceeded the 4.8 percent annual rate initially estimated a month ago, according to the Commerce Department.
